Meet Artist Andrea Dent
Andrea Dent is an abstract expressionist who uses cold wax & oil, acrylic, alcohol and acrylic ink, charcoal and resin as well as found objects to make her art. She often experiments by adding unexpected things to the paint to create unusual textures and finishes.
She believes working in a single medium is restrictive to her artistic process and that each idea manifests in its own individual style.
A native of Detroit, MI, she has lived in Jacksonville, NC, New York, NY, Los Angeles, CA, San Diego, CA and currently resides in South Florida.
The places she has lived as well as the places she has visited throughout the world, greatly influence her work.
As a self-taught artist, Dent allows the paint to decide where it wants to go, creating familiar shapes and lines. Texture on the other hand is created by purposely scraping and dragging cold wax mixed with oil paint on top of the previous layers to hide yet reveal.
Most of her paintings have a hidden, thought-provoking message. As the artist explains, “I am a storyteller who uses subtle visual messages to encourage those looking at my art to dig deeper than the surface”.
As the Founder and CEO of a 501(c)3, Will’s Wings Foundation, a percent of the proceeds from the sale of her art is used to fund travel adventures for youth from under resourced neighborhoods.
